About Tripod Ranch
We are a small animal rescue / sanctuary located in the Southern California High Desert. Our goal is to become an offical Non-Profit. But until we can afford to do that (or someone donates their expertise!) donations are NOT tax deductable. We have   many Rats, but have some other animals as they needed a special home. We started out about 9 years ago with a beautiful German Shepherd Dog named "Peggy" who was turned into Animal Control with a huge bone tumor on her right front leg. We couldn't let her be put down and adopted her, talked our vet into a "time payment plan" and had surgery to amputate the leg. Peggy healed rapididly and soon was training to be a Therapy dog. For a year she did well and was cancer free at each 3 month check up. But one day she was slow to race us to the front door and when we went to the vet that morning, there was cancer in her lungs. We had to let her go. A month later, the vet called..."I know it's only been a month since you lost Peggy, but Animal Control just brought us a really sweet lab puppy who was hit by a car and dragged....She's going to need that same leg amputated. Animal control says we have to find her a home today or put her down...you want to come see her?"
And so it goes!
Then my Daughter Nesa, started training therapy Rats, and working with Feral Cats at the local no-kill shelter. Soon they were calling us to take a 3-legged kitten, and could we talk to a family about their 3-legged German Shepherd /Coyote mix who needed a special home?
At present we have 20 Rats, 3 Guinea Pigs, 2 Rabbits, 1 Hamster, 2 3-legged Dogs, 2 Deaf & Blind Dogs, and 4 ex-feral Cats. (see the our animals section for pictures and the stories about each one!)
I am Disabled with knee injuries from a car accident 30 years ago, a spinal injury 17 years ago and Fibromyalgia. Last year I fractured a vertebra in the only uninjured area of my spine! I get severe spasms in my neck and shoulders that can put me down in bed for a week or more if I let them get "locked in". And that's where my Service Rat comes in! He alerts me to the spasms when they are just starting and then often just stretching is enough to break them. If I stretch and he still alerts me, then I know it's time to take meds before I "lock up"!
I am Dani, my daugher is Nesa. Nesa does most of the training. She trains my Service Rats, as well as Therapy Rats, Cats, and Rabbits. She was a Delta Society Certified Handler for "Fuzzy", my first Service Rat, who was also a Delta Society Certified Therapy Rat.
We live on Social Security, so the animals get fed first, and we buy groceries with whats left over. LOL So we absolutely are not making a profit.   Any help is greatly appreciated. Check out the "Cool stuff for You to help the animals"   and the "Stuff for your Ratties to help Our Ratties" areas where we have stuff for sale that we make!
Thanks for visiting our site, we would love to hear from you.
